Member Spotlight: From Silent Listener to Leading Discussions
Three months ago, member3 joined Tokalot as a complete beginner. Today, they regularly lead small group discussions and recently passed a job interview conducted entirely in English.
We sat down to talk about their journey.
How did you feel at your first session? "Honestly, terrified. I understood most of what was being said but I could not form sentences when it was my turn."
What made you keep coming? "The speakers never made me feel embarrassed. When I made mistakes, they corrected me gently and moved on. And the other members were in the same situation."
What changed? "Consistency. I forced myself to come at least twice a week even when I was tired. After about two months I noticed I was thinking in English rather than translating in my head."
Any advice for new members? "Do not wait until you feel ready to speak. You will never feel ready. Just start, make mistakes, and keep going. The progress happens faster than you think."
